Palm Hills Golf Resort Description:A very well-maintained palm-lined course with great views over the Gulf of Thailand
Palm Hills Golf Club is located close to Hua Hin Town Centre and five minutes from Hua Hin airport, in the lower foothill range. Palm Hills is recognised to be the first international standard golf course in Hua Hin, and formerly opened in 1992. In 1993, Palm Hills played host to the inaugural Thailand World Pro-Am Tournament.
The golf course was designed over a long strip of undulating land, which gives the course a Scottish feel to it, and the Palm Hills layout is different from all the other layouts in the area. The Course design goes from east to west, with lakes at each end, and is separated by the clubhouse and remarkably interesting rocky outcrop extending from the mountain range, which makes for a good photo opportunity.
The whole course is lined with hundreds of palm trees and has plenty of uphill lies, which has given the course its name Palm Hills. Thousands of spectacular coloured frangipani trees and bougainvillea shrubs also add to the natural beauty around the course. The back nine, which plays along the top of the mountain range offers stunning views of the Gulf of Thailand and Hua Hin.
Palm Hills is one of the most popular golf courses in Hua Hin. The Bermuda grassed fairways, are generous and broad, making the course playable for golfers of all abilities. Be aware, strategically placed bunkers and water hazards, with extremely fast Tiff Eagle greens ensure that low scores are by no means easy to gain from the course. In fact, the greens are recognised as some of the fastest greens in the area, especially when putting down the grain of the green.
The 10th through to the 14th hole are recognised to be the best holes on the golf course and require accurate shots and good course management. Palm Hills signature hole is the 11th, a long par three uphill into a sometimes-strong sea breeze and requires some thought into the tee shot and perhaps at least a club more than normal to reach in regulation.
The 14th 338 yards par 4, although one of the shortest par 4`s on the course but is one of the more exciting tests on the course lay-out. It is a dogleg left with water down the inside and some of the fairway, so club chose off the tee is critical. Negotiate the drive well, and the reward is yours, with an easy par or birdie.
The Palm Hills Golf Club course is always in excellent condition. The landscaping is beautiful and abundant throughout the entire golf course, and at certain times of the year, the course gives off an exotic fragrance from the blooms of the frangipani trees on most of the fairways.
Facilities including Men’s and Ladies locker rooms, practice areas. The restaurant serves both Thai and Western food that is reasonably priced and tasty, and then a short trip back into Hua Hin.
